Your GCM: Your Personal Resource
GCMs are able to provide so many emotional and tangible benefits to families because they provide two vital needs that are so often lacking in the care of an aging loved one: expertise and communication.
As mentioned, an experienced GCM is an expert in the particular aging challenges that your senior loved one faces. But equally important is the personal connection and open line of communication the GCM gives to both your family and loved one. In essence, the GCM becomes the surrogate family member in both minor challenges and more serious situations, taking on as much or as little responsibility as you desire.
Having this personal resource means families are able to carry out a less stressful lifestyle – going out of town becomes fun again; overall stress is reduced; and most important, visits with your aging loved one are cheerful family get-togethers instead of mandatory “monitoring” visits. Best of all, the aging loved one enjoys a better quality of health and sheds the debilitating feeling of being nothing but a burden on their family.
