After learning my husband was to be released from a major medical after two months, we were faced with his unprecedented challenges. We embarked on a research plan for his long term care at home. After careful consideration, it became very apparent that Senior Solutions was the clear choice. From that point on, we were very fortunate to have had them on board every step of the way including after care, when staff members would make inquiries of our well-being.

As conservator for elderly people, I was frustrated with the poor care they were receiving from a highly recommended source. The caregivers turned out the be dishonest and took advantage of the situation. More importantly, they were not providing adequate daily health care including the proper dispensing of medications.

By chance, I came across an advertisement for Senior Solutions Team, Inc. in a local periodical and gave them a call. I was immediately impressed by their selection process of caregivers and the supervision they maintain over the caregivers. The fact that the management frequently visits the clients and reviews the care process has been a welcome relief.

In 2006, my mother suffered a stroke and died three days later. Although she was 82 years old, in a wheelchair and legally blind, she helped take care of a long time neighbor who was suffering of Alzheimer’s disease. This gentleman (BW) needed help with almost everything. She paid his bills, fixed his meals, monitored his medications, told him when to take a shower and when to go to bed or get out of bed. Since this gentleman had no close family, and none locally, when my mother passed away I inherited his care.

I immediately took him to see the doctor, who was no help at all, but just said, “Let’s see how he does on his own for the next two months”. I could not be with him everyday, but took him to the grocery store, barber, doctors, when he needed it. This took me away from my work and was a huge strain on my life. At the end of the two months we found that he had lost 15lbs, because he forgot how to cook, didn’t take any of his medication, didn’t bathe and begun to wander the neighborhood. He needed help that I could not give him. His doctor was no help at all, just told me to find someone to take care of him.

One of my clients gave me the name of Senior Solutions Team, Inc. I called and spoke to Amy Wong, who setup an appointment to visit. Amy was very charming and while she spent time talking to BW about his Navy career, what she really was doing was checking out the house and evaluating BW to see what kind of help he needed. She setup a plan to provide what BW needed at the time. As time progressed, as did BW’s Alzheimer’s disease, she adjusted the service provided. Ultimately, we had to have full time, live in care. BW couldn’t have been happier. The Senior Solutions staff seemed to be able to find just the right kind of help for BW. He had someone to cook for him, someone to wash his clothing, buy his groceries. When he needed to go to the doctor, Amy or another RN from Senior Solutions would take him. Although I retained the main decision making and did all the bill paying, I did not have to leave my work to help BW with whatever he needed. Best of all, BW was able to stay in his home until he passed away about 15 months after my mom.

Senior Solutions saved me in so many ways having to do with the care of our friend. They had the medical knowledge to provide what was needed at the right time. I would not hesitate to refer them to anyone needing help in caring for a person at home.

Senior Solutions Team has been a godsend for myself and my sister Elaine Cooper. Three years ago, our Mother started showing signs of dementia and on numerous occasions she had fallen and injured herself so badly that she was hospitalized. I saw an ad in the Grunion Gazette and called Senior Solutions to see if they could help us make some decisions regarding our Mother’s care. She was living alone then and wanted to continue living alone without assistance. Machelle Thompson met my sister and I at the hospital and evaluated our Mother as to what level of care she would need upon returning home.

Three years have passed now and Senior Solutions is still assisting us with our Mother’s care. They have helped us in so many ways. While my sister and I were running the family business, they would care for our Mom on a 24 hour basis. They transported our Mother to the doctor, the beauty shop and even did grocery shopping. There was nothing that they wouldn’t do to help our Mother feel safe and secure. Each of the caregivers assigned to our Mom have been wonderful, caring people.

Our Mother is now in a Convalescent Hospital full-time. She can no longer walk or care for herself. Senior Solutions is still assisting us. Our Mother became very close with her full-time caregiver, so she still spends twelve hours a day with our Mom. She has become our Mother’s best friend. Our Mother no longer asks to go home. She is very content and secure and we have Machelle Thompson and Senior Solutions to thank for that.

Before my husband died, I had a very hard time taking care of him. Thank god for Machelle and Senior Solutions for all their support and comfort. They were here for me day and night until the end of his life and are still concerned about my well being to this day. I highly recommend them to everyone I know.

As a single child of two long-lived parents, having the services and expertise of Senior Solutions was like having help from the siblings I didn’t have, but with much more knowledge. Senior Solutions has provided many varied services over the past six years. They have assisted in the care of my parents. The support included: identifying facilities that could provide care for my parents that was appropriate for their needs after I could no longer provide adequate care in my home; identifying a gerontology group that would provide continuity of care in the many transfers from inpatient and outpatient settings; provision of case management services; provision of caregiving and physical therapy to supplement care provided by the facilities; expertise on the financial aspects of care and billing; providing a resource of information on the aging process and death and dying. They provided me personally a lot of hand holding and reassurance as my parents declined as well as nursing and physical therapy services in my own recovery from brain surgery during this time. Machelle transported my mom to my dad’s funeral as well as my daughter’s wedding so I could participate in these important events without the worry about the care of my mom.

I can’t imagine what our lives would have been without the services and the love and caring of Senior Solutions. I don’t even want to. They were a blessing to my parents, my children and me.
